Tips For Models

At Iinfiniti Models we take pride in being honest , assisting and educating models. We have included this section on our site to not only help you succeed in being the best model you can be, but to also understand the requirements and to avoid being scammed.

Despite the stereotypes breaking inot he modeling industry requires a lot more than beauty, it requires dedication, smarts and perserverance. First and foremeost is to realize how difficult it is to become a top fashion model in such a competitive industry. Millions chase the dream but only a handful actually make it as top fashion models. However, many people succeed as part-time models and enjoy an exhilirating life of being paid  for fashion, tv, movies and much more...

There are several different types and levels of modeling, and if your expectations are realistic, you needn't feel discouraged. There are different kinds of models such as child models, to tall runway models seen fashion shows, to plus size models who are a size 10 and above down to body parts models whose hands you might see in a diamond ring ad on a billboard.

The list goes on but the first thing you have to do is look at yourself, be honest and see where you qualify. Look at models in magazines like Vogue & Elle and see how you measure up, don't listen to your friends or some stranger telling you that you have what it takes so they can ell you a portfolio. Below is information on all the different types of modeling to help you determine where you fit in.

The Different Types of Modeling. Where do you fit in?

High Fashion ( Runway )

This for the tall and thin bodytype. This is a very strict division of modeling because all the top designers only make their new designs in certain sizes and if you are not those sizes then you obviously cannot be a top runway model.

Fashion models mostly do runway shows, promote new clothing designs in magazines, newspapers and sometimes tv. As a hig fashion model you must have a tall, lean frame and be attractive and beautiful.

Requirements
Age between 15-22 yrs old, Height 5'8 - 6'0, Hips 36 or less, Average wieght 108-125lbs.
Remember exceptions are made, Kate Moss one of fashions top models is only 5'7".

Promotional Modeling (Or Swimsuit / Beauty Modeling)

Promotional models do just that, they promote a variety of products at events such as trade shows, malls, conventions and more. The Coors Light twins or Budweiser girsl are a good example of promotional models.

Requirements
Promotional modeling is a fairly open field with very little restrictions. Models are 5'0" and up, 18-35 yrs old, have a great figure, very attractive and have an outgoing personality because they do a lot of speaking.

Commercial Print

Print models represent a wide range of products and services such as shampoo, insurance company ads, cars and a lot of the things you see advertised or for sale. Because they represent such a diverse range of products the models are also diverse in how they look.
Print models can range from 4 years old to retirement age. Print is by far the largest percentage of modeling jobs in the industry.

Requirements
Unlike runway models, print models typically range anywhere from 5'3" to 5'10", which answers the common question "How tall do I have to be to model?". . They have a wide face, great teeth, good skin, even facial features, proportionate bodies and high cheek bones.

Petite Fashion Modeling

Petite Fashion is a division of fashion modeling for those very few models who are absolutely good looking but do not make the height and size requirements of regular runway models. This is a very tough area to get into but this brings us back to our perfect example, the 5'7" kate Moss.

Requirements
Petite models are about 5'3" to 5'5", hips are 34 or less, dress size is 2 or 4 petite and as we mentioned earlier are absolutely good looking and attractive.

Plus Size  Fashion

Yet another division of fashion modeling but for full figured women. With a growing percentage of women wearing larger size clothing plus size fashion is on the ris, plus consumers  are pushing for a more realistic respresentation of the clothes they buy. This is one of the fastest growing divisions of modeling.

Requirements
Most people are under the impression that all it takes to be a plus size model is a large dress size, wrong! Plus size models are about 5'8" - 6'0" in height and they wear dress sizes 10 and up. They are attractive, have a proportional figure and shapely legs.

Acting

Actors end up in movies, feature films, tv series, reality shows, broadway plays and much more. You also see actors especially at the begining of their careers in smaller productions like music videos, commercials and independant films.

Requirements
The requirements for actors vary depending on the role the casting director is looking for. For example, a drop dead gorgeous 6 foot 125 pound model will not get a role as a girl next door because she does not represent your typical girl next door. While physical appearance does play an important role in acting the most important thing is the ability to comfortably perform in front of the camera.

Starting a Modeling Career.

Important Tips

Yes, modeling is all about the right look but the what really determines wether a model is successful or not is what we call The 4 D's - Desire, Dedication, Determination and Devotion. There is so much competition in the business that every job usually has hundreds of applicants and models that show professionalism and reliability usually end up on top. Here are a few tips you should remember.

1. Always show up early
Unlike a regular job as a model your job will most likely be in a different location each time, so always be prepared for traffic, getting lost or looking for parking.

2. Always be available
The last thing you want as a model is to miss out on job opportunities because you missed a call, so always make sure you return calls promptly and that your agency and clients have your cell phone number.

3. Always be Professional
Most people think modeling is a laid back and easy going profession when is actually the opposite. From the moment you show up, pay attention, act professional so people will enjoy working with you, and offer you more work.

If you are going on an audition or casting call do not bring friends, children or parents (unless you are under 18) because most agencies will not accept it. However for safety reasons, if you are unsure about the company or person you are going to see, we advise you bring someone.

4. Be Yourself
Always be yourself, relax and be comfortable because it all ends up showing when you get in front of the camera. Being yourself also means being honest when asked questions or asked for your opinions. Do not be intimidated or pressured into doing something you are not comfortable with, for example if you are not comfortable with nudes or implied nudity do not do it to please the photographer, simply say no.

The 4 Steps to Starting Modeling.

Step 1. Do Some Reading

We highly reccmmend that you do some research by reading about the modeling industry so you can be aware of the way the industry works, the scams and also to better prepare yourself to get involved

Step 2. Build a Portfolio

You are going to need some professional photos other than the snap shots you have to build your portfolio. Do not spend hundreds of dollars on this, instead ask photographers for test shoots, get involved in modeling shows like ours (See examples of our shows) or volunteer to model for a college photo class. Collect all the photos you get and put at least ten good shots into a nice portfolio binder, now you have something to show agencies and clients. The more photo shoots you do the more experience you get.

Step 3. Get some Exposure

Now that you have photos you need to show the world who you are and what you can do, you need exposure. The most cost effective way is the web, sign up for a free online portfolio with websites such as ours or www.onemodelplace.com. With an online portfolio you now have a place where everybody can go and see your work.

The next part to getting exposure is comp cards, they cost a little money which hopefully by now you would of made by working in fashion shows or promotions with companies like ours. A comp card is like a models passport, it is a big postcard with your photos, stats, measurements and contact information. Get some comp cards made and drop them off (or mail if you have to) to all the modeling agencies in your area. Also when you go for an audition or casting leave them a comp card because that is the only way they can remember what you look like and contact you in 6 months time when they need models.

Step 4.

The final step is to find an agency (or agent) or to represent yourself as a freelancer. Which ever path you choose you have to keep mailing out your photos, emailing your website link, going to casting calls, getting in touch with casting directors and agents to make sure someone hires you.

From all the photographers down to the make-up artists you work with, always take advantage of all the contacts you come in touch with because you never know who will recommend you for your next job.

Remember the modeling business is very competitive and there will always be someone who is taller, prettier and in better shape than you, so keep a positive attitude, learn to deal with rejection and you will do just fine.

Also remember you cannot buy a modeling career so beware of people who will try to sell you your dream with expensive portoflios, photo shoots and pointless modleing classes.

Conclusion

Last Words

It is obvious that you are determined to become a model because you have read this far and that is a great sign. Remember it is all about your attitude, knowing your role and expsoing yourself to the right people.

You can start by getting involved with real life modeling experiences such as the ones our company offers. It gives you a chance to get experience, meet industry people and make money to help pay for things like photo shoots and comp cards.

Once you make it as a model you can enjoy a fun, ego boosting lifestyle of fashion and glamour. As a promotional model you can make anywhere from $20 - $80 per hour, commercial print $75 - $125, and as a high fashion model $100 - $250 per hour, and that's not bad at all.

Please remember that no single person can claim to be an expert on the modeling industry, it is way too dynamic therefore some people may have different views or opinions on our information. We have simply gathered this information from different reliable sources and our own personal experience to benefit you.

So good luck with your dreams of becoming a model and remember all you need is 4 D's.
